This blog is here to help provide insight to the world of the ADHD.
As a person who has worked with neurodivergent youth for over 15 years, and who is neurodivergent myself, I am often in the position of providing guidance and reassurance to families regarding the needs of their ADHD child. Many times, I find that I am helping the families of these children understand themselves better along the way.
I believe in approaching ADHD with curiosity and high expectations of success.
As a self-described ADHD advocate, it is my hope and goal that I can provide a new perspective for families who are trying to accommodate the dopamine-seeking person in their life. ADHD, when understood, can give an advantage beyond the imagination!
This is what I like to call Dopamine Alchemy.
What is Dopamine Alchemy?
It’s understanding and accepting that you process the world differently than a person without ADHD.
It’s knowing that the way your mind works is not a disability. It survived the human genome with a specific purpose.
It’s viewing your differences as necessary and your natural inclinations as a tool.
It’s learning that you are not a bad person. You are a good person in a bad zoo.
It’s developing control over your chemistry and its resulting behaviors.
It’s believing you are uniquely capable of success and deserving of understanding.
And lastly, it’s knowing when to laugh instead of cry. Life is messy for everyone, not just you. You are not alone!
If you’ve read this far, then please explore! Perhaps Dopamine Alchemy can help you as much as it has helped me.
